Children learn about their faith and how to trust in God through watching their parents and grandparents’ words and example. Parents and Grandparents are their first teachers of our faith. This is a huge but wonderful responsibility, one you may not even feel qualified to take on.
At St. Joseph Parish, we want to help you with that. Our goal is to help you begin to discuss the faith with your children and provide some resources to help you practice our Catholic faith in your homes.
Research shows that the elements which turn young children into faithful adults is the faith life of their parents. That means participating in the sacraments together and in talking about God at home.* What could be more rewarding than your family growing in God's grace together?
If you don't have children, that's okay too. All are welcome and our program will also speak to you. You will help enrich the families with your witness of faith!
Starting in September the program meets here at St. Joseph, Sundays from 9:30-10:45 (right after the 8:15 Mass). There are ten lessons, complete with a resource. Each session will include lots of time for group discussion and a short catechesis on an aspect of the faith. The cost of the program is $105.00 and an additional $65.00 for sacramental preparation materials. If finances are limited we will wave a portion or all of the fee.
Sacramental preparation for First Communion/Reconciliation is part of the BDC experience. We incorporate a beautiful method of formation called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd together with the BDC sessions. Children from ages 3 to 9 will attend sessions in a space called the Atrium while parents and children 10 and older will participate in lessons and discussions together with other families.
Click the BDC registration form below to sign up for classes. You can call 517.546.0090 ext. 400 with questions.
